THE INVISIBLE HOUR
The Invisible Hour - Apple and Pecan Pies #ad I am so thrilled to be teaming up with @bobsredmill for an early start on Thanksgiving baking! Homemade holiday desserts always remind me of my childhood memories cooking with my mom on Thanksgiving mornings. This year, for my gluten sensitive family members, I was so excited to try Bob’s Red Mill’s Gluten Free 1-to-1 Baking Flour! The crust turned out perfect for these delicious apple and pecan desserts, which are inspired by this beautiful mother-daughter novel, and I’ll definitely be making them again this holiday season!

The Invisible Hour is an enchanting, fairytale-like story that is part romance, part historical fiction, with a touch of Alice Hoffman’s signature magic. In it, a young woman escapes an oppressive community ruled by her tyrannical stepfather, finding solace and courage in books. She is transfixed by The Scarlet Letter, with its parallels to her own life dictated by rules, and is enchanted by its author, Nathaniel Hawthorne. She seeks to cross the boundaries of time to find him - but will seeking her one true love change the course of the very book that can save her?

I adored this lyrical novel, brimming with history, magic and a timeless heroine to root for. It is a love letter to the power of books to rescue us, and to show us how we can rescue ourselves. This book is set near an orchard and is filled with apples, as well as a special pecan pie served on Thanksgiving. I’ve made both types, to represent the good and evil in this beautiful, perfect-for-fall story!
