THE SEVEN YEAR SLIP

If you’re looking for escapist fiction (that *doesn’t* involve dragons), I so enjoyed this adorable delicious romance with generous helping of magical realism on the side. Clementine is an ambitious book publicist who is at a crossroads in her career and life following the loss of her beloved aunt, who willed Clementine her grand, mysterious NYC apartment. When she finds a handsome stranger cooking in the kitchen, she comes to understand all of her aunt’s warnings about the apartment’s wondrous possibilities, and promise for heartbreak: because he exists seven years in the past. Clementine’s aspirations are derailed as she falls for Iwan, a charming chef, but can their time-slip romance reconcile with the people they’ve become in the present?

I mean, what cuter couple than a publishing-cooking duo. This book has a few of my very favorite ingredients for a foodie romance: tons of mouth watering dishes, a literary life, and perfect little NYC details (I kept waiting for the apartment doorman, always with a book, to turn out to be the key to their romance - maybe in a sequel)! This is the second time travel book I’ve read in a row and I am here for it. Addie LaRue was not my cup of tea but I enjoyed these past two. I also loved Time and Again by Jack Finney many years ago! Any others to recommend?

Lots of incredible sounding food here but I opted for an orange cake inspired by Clementine’s name! Recipe is from @bromabakery and is easy as … you know. If I was to make anything else from the book it would definitely be the pumpkin fajitas from the food truck. I can’t think of anything I’d rather eat in the fall! Does this exist? Anyone have a recipe? Send it my way!
