MARVELOUS JACKSON
🎂HAPPY, HAPPY BOOK BIRTHDAY🎂 to Marvelous Jackson, and its wonderful author @laura_at_the_library ! I’m incredibly honored to have written a blurb for this very special middle grade novel: “Marvelous Jackson positively sparkles … I wanted to hug this big-hearted gem of a book, press it into the hands of every kid I know, and then bake ten dozen cookies! It’s a must read for every child, or child-at-heart, trying to discover the ingredients that make up the best version of themselves.” Seeing these words in print makes my heart so happy! ❤️

In the story, thirteen-year-old Jack Wilson - first introduced in the companion story Crossing The Pressure Line - is struggling to adjust to the loss of his mom. It seems that at every turn, he makes mischievous missteps with increasingly irreversible consequences. But when Jack rediscovers his love of baking, and allows himself to revisit his memories in the kitchen with his mom, he begins to heal what felt broken inside him. Jack is determined to compete in the Marvelous Midwest Kids Baking Championship show - but the best prize of all is the many ways Jack grows in this delightful story about childhood friendship, the power of perseverance and the healing magic of baking. Please, @laura_at_the_library , may we have a sequel??

One of Jackson’s specialties is an unassuming-looking but totally addictive cookie called “whimsydiddles.” And lucky me because the recipe is included in the book! These easy to make cookies are sooo chewy and taste like fall, with browned butter, plenty of cinnamon and the crunch of some Rice Krispies. I’d include the recipe but you’ll just have to buy the book and make them yourself! They are irresistible!
