THE WEDDING PEOPLE

“Becoming who you want to be is just like anything else. It takes practice. It requires the belief that one day, you’ll wake up and be a natural at it.”
🍾
I adored this quirky, tender, funny-sad novel! A few chapters in, this book shifted gears in a way I did not expect, and I became so invested that I finished the second half in one sitting. I am so glad I read this absolute gem of a story!
🍾
This book centers on newly single Phoebe, who has checked into a grand hotel in Newport, RI, determined to carry out a plan that would upend the opulent nuptials taking place that week. Lila, the bride, is horrified that someone not a wedding guest is staying at the hotel. But when the two bond as confidants, Phoebe becomes an integral part of the wedding in ways none of them could have imagined.
🍾
The Wedding People is a touching and smart exploration of loneliness, connection, and the courage needed to start over. The cast of characters in this book is gold - endearing, exasperating and imperfectly human. This story is a poignant reminder that, even if someone is stuck, they don’t have to remain in that place forever: a combination of luck and determination can create an unexpected chance to begin again.
🍾
Phoebe’s hotel room comes with a goodie bag containing cookies that “look as much like Oreos as they legally can.” These Not Legally Oreos gave me a laugh, and got me thinking about Oreos. They’re so versatile! Pulse in a food processor for crust, crumble for ice cream topping, or chop them into a cookies and cream pie like the one here. This recipe is from @sallysbakeblog and is a great kick off to my favorite pie holiday next week!
