SANDWICH

“Why do we love everyone so recklessly and then break our own hearts? And they don’t even break. They just swell, impossibly, with more love.”
🌊☀️
In this beautiful, poignant novel, Rocky and her family are on their annual summer vacation to Cape Cod, where she finds herself “sandwiched” between her young adult children and her aging parents. Over a week at their beloved beach rental, Rocky is filled with nostalgia for summers past, gratitude for her evolving present, and uneasiness over what the future will hold. Emotions run high and secrets are revealed, as Rocky tests the limits of those closest to her, and confronts the inevitability of passing time.

Sandwich is tender, moving, and keenly observed, filled with the kind of shimmering magic only found on an annual family beach vacation. To read Sandwich is to experience life with this loving, messy, boisterous family, with their traditions, in-jokes, and fierce loyalty. With a perfectly satisfying ending, this book explores how fleeting life’s most precious moments are - and how love endures, in the ways that matter most.

I’ve been craving the peach and burrata salad from this book’s fictional clam shack for weeks! Paired with lobster rolls - the perfect summer “sandwich” IMO - this is my new fave dinner. I’m very particular about lobster rolls (mayo not butter, on a non toasted bun) and these did not disappoint! Lobster rolls + summer books = the best combo there is!

This is a variation on the lobster salad I made here !
