TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW

“He wanted Ichigo’s life, a life of endless, immaculate tomorrows, free of mistakes and the evidence of having lived.”

I was completely mesmerized by the extraordinary Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, a story of the friendship between video game developers Sam and Sadie, who first bond as children during a vulnerable time in their lives. When fate reunites them in college, they collaborate to design a video game that becomes wildly popular, catapulting them to the peaks of success and fame, while subjecting their friendship to the perils of jealousy and ambition.

When I picked up Tomorrow x3, I had been reading lighter books and found myself ready for something absolutely epic. This novel was that and more: refreshingly original, consistently surprising and deeply moving. At its core, it is an exploration of the strength and fragility of friendship, always asking, what is the deepest knowledge one can have of another person? Is intellectual intimacy the strongest kind of connection there is? Tomorrow x3 is a love letter to the creative process in all its beauty and complication. I found myself completely invested in Sam, Sadie, their friend Marx - and the vivid worlds they inhabit, real or imagined. Beautiful and filled with emotion, this will absolutely be one of my top books of the year.

For this novel, I made popsicles in two Marx-themed flavors: one for his “perfect peach” from the orchard, and the other for his “strawberry field.” In one unforgettable scene, characters string together origami cranes (iykyk) - swipe to see photo two with a tribute to that part of the story. Which version do you like best?
