THE HUSBANDS
Original, quirky and hilarious, The Husbands is such a fun spring story - and a fabulous listen on audio too! After a night out with friends, Lauren is shocked to find there is a strange man in her London flat - who is apparently her husband! Lauren’s attic has turned magical, and continues to send her a new husband every time the one before disappears. But will she know when the “right” one comes along? And what will these husbands teach Lauren about herself?

This satirical send up of modern dating had me laughing out loud, and crying “nooo!” at Lauren’s questionable choices! While Lauren sends a parade of hapless husbands back to the attic for ridiculous infractions - nostril hair! wearing a hat while watching TV! - Lauren increasingly loses touch with what might qualify someone for marriage in the first place. There may be deeper meaning here in what makes a person willing to commit to another (hint: you have to commit to yourself first). But honestly, I enjoyed it for the sheer fun of suspending reality and embracing the mayhem of a husband portal! Loved this one, @readwithjenna ‘s April pick!

This book has a touching wedding cake moment that inspired this photo, combined with the chaos of all of Lauren’s husbands. But let’s discuss my runner up food for this book: bolognese sauce! Lauren complains that every husband has a secret, special ingredient that makes *their* bolognese different from every other (eye roll). She sends them all back to the attic, obviously!
