SUPER BLOOM

“Don’t we all have dormant potential coiled up inside of us? Greatness lying within, waiting to be tapped? Just like Samuel’s super blooms. Seeds holding out for perfect conditions: soil, sun, rain.”

Happy pub day to this delightful debut! Joan is a massage therapist at a luxurious spa and resort in Vermont. She is bored and disaffected at work, and numb to life in general after the unexpected death of her boyfriend. When her new client, a famous novelist, asks her to keep a behind the scenes log of the spa’s secrets for an upcoming book, Joan reluctantly agrees - only to find that her longtime love of writing has reawakened her long lost sense of self.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find novels that tackle heavier topics with a light touch, making heartwarming stories that are funny, sweet and human so rare. Why is this such an elusive genre, the light-with-substance novel that isn’t a romcom? I am so happy to have found a new book to add to this shelf. Plus I got to learn about actual superblooms, which are happening out in the wild right now! This novel is such a touching and witty debut, a super-fun springy book to get you out of a reading rut and transitioning to summery reads. ALSO, there’s a 20% off discount from now through May 14 when you order Super Bloom from zibbysbookshop.com (promo code: COMMUNITY20) !!

I kept imagining healthy and colorful spa food for this pairing, and with this vibrant purple cover I couldn’t resist making some bright acai bowls and smoothies. This post definitely gave my blender a workout, starting with @sambazon frozen acai as a base. Also made my favorite blueberry smoothie, along with my latest obsession, spinach, banana and mango mixed with almond milk. These took me back to the best acai bowls of my life, from @wowwowlemonade on Maui, and my favorite smoothie, the Tin Tin from @jus_aspen . Bowls and smoothies are easy to make but aren’t they so much better when someone else blends them for you? Some foods are just like that …
