IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE
I absolutely LOVED interviewing Jane Costello at Athena Books in Old Greenwich for the launch of It’s Getting Hot In Here!
This fabulous romcom is filled with relatable hilarity and steamy fun! Lisa is an English 40-something TV exec and single mom who has a hefty dose of real life on her plate: moody teenager, work drama, best friend in a health crisis, and an ever growing to-do list that is equal parts hellish and hilarious. She’s not looking for romance, but when handsome American colleague Zach turns up for a temporary stint at the office, she can’t ignore the chemistry between them. Can she set aside the tug of reality at every turn and learn, finally, to prioritize herself?
Years ago, the chances of seeing a perimenopause subplot in a romcom would be zero. But there has been a seismic shift in popular culture, sending a message loud and clear: midlife is not the end of romantic life, and in many cases it is a new beginning. Lisa is enjoying herself immensely, not in spite of her age, and not because of it - she just owns who she is, teen kids, Botox, changing body and all. She’s smart, funny and confident, which this book shows is sexy at any age. I especially appreciated Lisa’s relationship with her kids - she’s not a perfect mom but she shows us that it’s ok to learn as we go, with love.
Zach turns out to be an amazing cook, and treats Lisa to a dreamy, romantic meal capped off with homemade lemon tart. Reader, lemon tart is not as easy as it sounds so bravo, Zach! Valentine’s desserts don’t have to have chocolate or pink icing - sometimes you need a little tart to appreciate the sweet.
