FUNNY STORY
Recently, when I found myself craving a classic romcom, I asked my romance reader friends for recs. Unsurprisingly, they all had the same answer: anything by EMILY HENRY, of course!

Synopsis prob unnecessary, but if you’re in the 1% of people who haven’t read this one, Daphne has been unceremoniously dumped by her fiancé for his beautiful childhood best friend, Petra. Miles is Petra’s ex, and Daphne moves in with him purely for convenience. When the two hatch a plan to be a pretend couple to annoy their exes, sparks fly that are anything but make-believe. But can Petra and Miles work through their trust issues long enough to discover whether they were meant to be together all along?

I can 100% see why this novel is beloved by avid romance readers and reluctant romcommers alike! A romcom prerequisite for me is a charming setting, and I fell in love with this Michigan town, with bars in barns, lemonade in mason jars, farmers markets and dune-bound beaches. Equally sweet was the library where Daphne works - I could almost smell that specific library scent of unopened books. There was more analysis into Daphne and Miles’s psyches than I expected, but that did not detract from their chemistry which felt authentic, lighthearted and refreshingly fun. Pick this up if you’re in the mood for a tried and true romance!

This is the first time I baked something inspired by how a character smells! Daphne is really into Miles’s natural scent, which we’re told more than once is like GINGERSNAPS -“sweet and a little spicy … (an) earthy smell folded into a sugary baked good.” Sweet and a little spicy is a pretty good description of this book, as well as these gingerbread mini bundts. My kitchen now smells amazing, and I can definitely see why Daphne was so smitten!
